I am running windows 7 64bit and having the same problems. I unistalled mobile device centre and re-installed the one on the above link and it worked. However I had to connect without setting up the device, if I choose to set up the device it disconnects and so I have to remove the partnership to keep it connected. Which is okay in my circumstance as it is a gps and I only wanted to add and remove media files in it and update the maps. It works perfectly on my xp computer with the older progam. Why microsoft has made a program worse than it's predocessor is beyond me. I hope this helps someone else. I spent a whole day on this. Good luck!

Gee, I thought only I was having this problem. I run Vista 64 Home Premium. It only started doing this last week.
I will try any and all of the above. (My family thinks its me causing this trouble) (I don't remember having this much fun when I had a Palm!) (Apples are looking tastier!)

Sometimes I can’t help but marvel at the selection of mobile phone brands available in the market today. Even companies that have traditionally manufactured other types of electronics are taking up to mobile phone manufacturing.

I tried following these instructions and the best I could get was everything but files synchronized. If I went beyond step 19, WMDC upgraded itself to 6.1. If I then tried monkeying with any settings to get the files to synchronize I landed right back at step 1 again with a "problem with your connection" error. So for the time being, I'm standing pat. I can't tell you how many times I've rebooted and reinstalled WMDC. The only step I did not perform was deleting entries from the registry. There were dozens of keys named "windowsmobile", and I was more than a bit nervous that I would just end up trashing my system. BTW - on my computer wmdc.exe was wmdcbase.exe.

If you know of anything that can fix the file sync problem, let me know. I've done everything I can. There a checkbox in WMDC 6.1 labeled "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC". I tried changing that. I also tried hard resetting my mobile device, which is not a phone. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is not with the device. Maybe there's something in the registry, but I don't really know much about that so I am avoiding it. I can't find any other setting that appears to block or allow files to sync. I even switched virus scanners and ran a complete scan of my system. All I can do is hope that a fix comes out for this eventually. I wonder if Windows 7 would offer any improvments?
